Days seventeen and eighteen - The Final!

The two last days have been quite stressful and wonderful at the same time. We haven´t got the chance to update our blog in the last 48 hours, therefore we have condensed in this final entry our last two days at Icehotel.

Thursday the 16th at one o´clock in the night, our Icehotel Suite was completed!
The fish has been given ice eyes and we hung up the fishing hook in the ceiling.

The sea leaves poking trough the roof shine as lanterns in the Arctic daylight.

After a lot of measuring and sawing, we also set the bed in place.

We brought inside the Icehotel Suite a lot of fresh snow to spread it over the floor.
Eighteen days of hard work, aching muscles and a lot of fun are now over. We did it!

Our Support Hero helped us to lift up the last pillars for the sea leaves. In the background blowing snow from the snow cannons. Approximately -24 degrees in the air.

Today the plate for our Icehotel Suite was ready!

The Lighting Team was focused, light filters and cables everywhere...

Testing, testing, it´s gonna look great!

Godnight for today.

When we arrived this morning a beautiful overhead light shined through our Icehotel Suite. Outside it was -28 degrees!

More sea leaves are about to be completed, at the moment 80% of the room is ready.

Today at Icehotel we also celebrated Saint Lucia. The candles symbolize the light with which Lucia overcomes the darkness.

A pink morning this fourteenth day of work at Icehotel.

We have been working to get the sea leaves to "grow up trough the ceiling" by immersing the very top of them in the roof of Icehotel. A tractor lifted the heavy load.

We mixed a huge amount of Snice (mixture of water and snow) with a heat gun to fix the holes around the sea leaves inside our Icehotel Suite.

In order not to disturb guests we couldn´t work too late this evening, some of the Suites in our corridor are already rented.
See you tomorrow! 4 days left until the deadline.

A cold but very beautiful day today.

Ice carving on the schedule. These small blocks will be placed on top of the sea leaves to extend them all the way up trough the roof.

Three out of seven sea leaves setted on place!

With aching muscles, tired but happy, we leave Icehotel for today.

Jukkasjärvi Icehotel December 10, -21 degrees

The sea leaves are finally taking shape!

After we marked the position of the pillars on the floor we have located the exact spot where they are supposed to meet the roof.

We are building the pillars using big ice blocks measuring 50x30 and the surfaces need to be leveled before we "glue" them together. It´s interesting how water can be used to connect ice blocks in such a resistent way.

Tomorrow we are going to set the last blocks which are supposed to extend up trough the roof.

Today is the first day for tourists to enjoy Icehotel and some final retouches are required before the opening ceremony of the Icebar.
